Our Vision
Is to establish an authentic community policing model in Madison County to include Huntsville Police Department, Madison Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
#1Have all Standard Operating Procedures, including the use of force policies available to the public by the end of the calendar year.
#2Use PowerDMS to upload training certificates of HPD officers for APOSTC standards, annual use of force policies and bias/discrimination trainining.
#3Set and make public psychological screening guidelines (how many questions address bias and discrimination)?
#4Turn on HPD’s Motorola serviced crime mapping data for public access in each neighborhood.
|
#5Publicly provide officer complaints regarding bias and discrimination and the results of the complaint as well on a monthly basis post investigation.
#6Recommend public explanations of HPD approach to officers with bias and discriminatory patterns.
#7Recommend a third party panel consisting of members of the community to review agency SOPs for evidence of bias and over policing. Report those findings to the public.
|
#8Recommend a diverse Citizen Complaint Review Board composed of members of the African American, Hispanic, Asian, and Caucasian communities to review citizen complaints and allow this panel to make SOP-rooted disciplinary recommendations to the mayor, city council, and agency executives.
#9Ensure transparent process for releasing law enforcement body camera footage to the public after an investigation has been completed.
#10Respond to the Tennessee Valley Progressive Alliance’s communication regarding decriminalization of marijuana supporting a city council resolution to decriminalize small amounts of marijuana to save the local court system and the department funding and time trying to prosecute small incidents.
